Mark S. Blumenkranz, MD
Mark S. Blumenkranz, M.D., MMS, is the HJ Smead Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology at Stanford University. He served as the Department Chairman from 1997 until 2015 and played a leading role in the construction of the Byers Eye Institute. He is a past President of the American University Professors of Ophthalmology (AUPO), the Retina Society and the Macula Society, as well as a Fellow of the Corporation of Brown University and Chair of the Medical School Committee. He has longstanding interest and expertise in university corporate technology transfer. He was a founder of Optimedica Corporation, Peak Surgical, Avalanche Biotechnologies, Oculeve, and Digisight Technologies amongst others. He is a co-founder and Director of Lagunita Biosciences LLC an early stage biotechnology and medical investment company.
