Szilárd Kiss, MD

Dr. Kiss’s received his undergraduate degree from Columbia College and medical school training at Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons. He completed ophthalmology residency and vitreoretinal fellowship at Harvard Medical School and the Massachusetts Eye & Ear Infirmary. He was recruited as faculty to Weill Cornell and assumed the role of Director of Clinical Research. Dr. Kiss was then named the Director of the Retina Service, overseeing and guiding all clinical, research and education activities. More recently, Dr. Kiss was named the Director of Tele-Ophthalmology, spearheading the department’s telemedicine and outreach efforts. Dr. Kiss’s clinical interests include vitreoretinal surgery and treatment of AMD, diabetic retinopathy and retinal degenerations. His clinical and translational research focuses on four areas: retinal imaging, gene and cellular therapy, ocular neovascularization, and genetic markers. He has authored nearly 300 publications, given over 200 lectureships worldwide, and serves on the Editorial Board and Reviewer to a number of journals. Dr. Kiss has won numerous awards including the Heed Fellowship, the Ronald G. Michels Fellowship, the Paul Kayser Fellowship, and the RRB Physician-Scientist Award. For his academic and clinical contributions, Dr. Kiss has received the Honor and Senior Honor Awards from the American Society of Retina Specialists and the Honor Award from the American Academy of Ophthalmology. Dr. Kiss has been named to several regional, national and international Top Doctors lists, including The Ophthalmologist 40 Under 40, Castle Connolly’s Top Doctors and New York Super Doctors. He was inducted into the Retina Hall of Fame.
