Biography

Dr. Frank W. Bowden, III, is the founder of Bowden Eye & Associates, a successful integrated eye care practice which he established in Jacksonville, Florida in 2001, following military service as an Ophthalmologist in the U.S. Navy and subsequent ten years in a private multispecialty ophthalmology practice. He has been a respected expert in clinical and surgical anterior segment eye care throughout his career. He is a Board Certified Ophthalmologist and a Wills Eye Fellowship trained Corneal Specialist with unique experience as an accomplished corneal, refractive, glaucoma and cataract surgeon as well as a comprehensive dry eye specialist. His group practice is comprised of two surgeons and four Optometrists providing comprehensive and specialty eye care services including clinical research in three Jacksonville locations with Optical Dispensaries. He is the owner and Medical Director of the Eye Surgery Center of North Florida for the past 15 years. He has had multiple tenures as Ophthalmology section chief of Baptist Medical Center in Jacksonville. He has been the Ophthalmology consultant for the Jacksonville Jaguars of the NFL for 23 years. He has been recognized by local peers as one of Jacksonville’s Top Doctors multiple times over the years. He has been recognized nationally as a key opinion leader in eye care as well as a familiar ophthalmic industry consultant for many years. He has been committed to the advancement of dry eye care education with cofounding of Dry Eye University educational seminars which are seven years running. He has demonstrated expertise with successful integration of comprehensive ocular surface disease management within a diverse anterior segment surgical practice. He is an avid tennis player and remains a passionate fan of the University of Tennessee football and basketball as well as the Jacksonville Jaguars football team. His prior academic achievements include finishing the University of Tennessee with highest honors and Meharry Medical College with the distinction of Valedictorian. He was the first African American to complete a U.S. Navy Ophthalmology residency in San Diego, California in 1984.
