Biography
Dr. Rynerson graduated from University of Louisville Medical School in 1990, ranked first in his class in Physiology. He completed an ophthalmology residency at LSU in 1995. During his 17 years in private practice, he became frustrated with the lack of understanding and effective treatment options for dry eye disease. Through years of dedication to researching current literature, coupled with clinical observations, Dr. Rynerson became a pioneer in the understanding and treatment of this pervasive disease, and was the first to propose the theory of biofilm-induced inflammatory inflammation as the primary etiology of dry eye and lid margin disease. He has developed and patented two novel treatment devices; BlephEx which is a debridement tool, and SymphonEyez which uses an electric current to vaporize biofilm.
