Jeffrey Friedman, MD, PhD

Dr. Friedman oversees a family office that focuses on private companies in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical space, with an emphasis on platform technologies, oncology, neurodegenerative disease and genomics. For several years he ran the life science screening process for NuFund (formerly Tech Coast Angels, San Diego), the largest angel investing group in the US. He currently serves on the boards of Hillhurst Bio and Trio Pharma. He was a board member, served as COO for two years and was a scientific advisor at DTx Pharma from the initial financing up to the acquisition by Novartis in 2023. On a volunteer basis, he helps to run the PSP Genetics Consortium, an international effort to sequence the genomes of up to 3,000 individuals with PSP, funded by the Tau Consortium, CurePSP and the NIH. Dr. Friedman is trained as a Pediatrician and Hematologist/Oncologist, and pursued an academic medicine career at TSRI prior to entering venture financing.

FriedmanBioventure Fund 1, LP (FBVF1) is a limited partnership that serves as the biotech focused investment arm of a diversified family office. The fund was created in early 2016 to formalize management of existing early stage biotech investments going back to 2012, to provide a formal structure for vetting and management of new opportunities, and allow for participation of new limited partners.
