Rebecca Kammer, OD, PhD
Biography
Rebecca Kammer is the Vice President of Worldwide Clinical and Medical Affairs at Samsara Vision, where she leads global clinical efforts for a groundbreaking intraocular telescope designed for patients with late-stage age-related macular degeneration. She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry (AAO) and a diplomate in low vision rehabilitation.
Before joining Samsara Vision, Dr. Kammer served as a consultant and then the Vice President of Clinical Operations at Jcyte Inc., where she played a key role in developing clinical trial endpoints for a cell therapy aimed at treating retinitis pigmentosa. Additionally, she founded her own consulting firm, focusing on clinical studies for therapies and devices targeting inherited retinal diseases.
Prior to obtaining post-graduate degrees, Dr. Kammer completed a bachelor’s degree in optical engineering, and, during the first half of her career, taught both optics and low vision rehabilitation.
Throughout her journey, she has been recognized as a pioneer for initiating several low vision clinical programs at universities and in regions with significant healthcare gaps. In fact, driven by a passion for humanitarian service, Dr. Kammer has directed a program providing low vision care to children with albinism in remote areas of East Africa for the last 13 years.
