Biography

Dr. Cavallerano is the Executive Director, Clinical Training and Patient Care and an adjunct professor of optometry. His major career and research interests include the retina, diabetic retinopathy, and telemedicine, with a special interest in teleretinal imaging to screen for retinal disease. His most recent studies focus on advanced ocular imaging technologies, diabetes, health services research, and the delivery of health care services. Dr. Cavallerano is a fellow of the American Academy of Optometry, a member of the Massachusetts Society of Optometrists and the American Optometric Association, and is a founding member of the Optometric Retina Society. He is an editorial board member for the publication Primary Care Optometry News and is the former editor-in-chief of the journal Clinical Eye and Vision Care and Optometry and the Journal of the American Optometric Association. Dr. Cavallerano earned his Doctor of Optometry degree from the Massachusetts College of Optometry, now the New England College of Optometry. In 2006, he was the recipient of the College’s Carroll Martus Award for Outstanding Clinical Instruction. In June 2008, Dr. Cavallerano was recognized as the Emerson Woodruff Distinguished Lecturer by the University Of Waterloo School Of Optometry.
